Praying the Psalms

He peacefully unfolds from my arms as I lay him down; him with belly full of my warmth, my nourishment. I slip in beside him, hungry. His restfull breathing lulls me as I partake of my own nourishment. The quest for Him, the quest for self...

In the Psalter you learn about yourself. You find depected in it all the
movements of your soul, all its changes, its ups and downs, its failures and recoveries.
~St Athanasius~

I read the words as the house sleeps. I read them again. The baby stirs, reaching out to me. He knows I am near and continues in peaceful slumber. I need to know He is near; I reach out and read again, slowly. I need words to sink deep, on good soil. I will begin the spiritual practice of lectio divina.

I read the text (lectio)
I meditate on the text
(mediatio)
I pray the text (oratio)
I live the text (contemplatio)

I know I am not alone in this journey. Would you consider joining me on the weekends to pray the Psalms? One Psalm a week, Saturday or Sunday. Join me in the discipline of lectio divina, spiritual reading. We will meet here to walk through the words together, offer encouragement and gain wisdom. We all have something to offer as the Spirit moves us...there is no right way, or correct prayer. He meets us where we are.

Drop me a note in my email, the rural mailbox you see at the top right side of the page, if you would like to join me.
