I was not getting this Psalm, until I started doing some searching. Then I realized this Psalm was an arrow straight from God. In my Revised Standard Bible, it is titled, Song of Trust in God...bulls eye!
Funny how I missed the title the first time through. It was only when reflecting on the conversation my husband and I had tonight, you know, about trust and faith, that I noticed the words. Apparently I am lacking in the trust and faith department. I'm also a slow learner, or...I think I have it all figured out, only to be reminded that one does not "figure it out", one must LIVE it; this trust.
Such a patient God He is with me. Today has been a painful reminder of my lack. I can almost envision myself like a dog on a leash, straining, pulling, choking...and if I would just stop all that nonsense...it would be ok. If I were to trust Him, leading me, even if it seems He walks behind and not ahead...maybe this would not always hurt so bad, huh?
As I struggle and strain, I think of the first verse
"In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to me, flee like a bird to the mountains..."
†Psalm 11:1
Ah, yes, the old "fight or flight" response; I know it all too well. And it makes me tired. The searching for a focal point. A place to be grounded. A couple of years ago a friend and I shared the same doula. Actually a doula in training from our church. This friend was having her first baby, and I had just delivered my fifth. The doula said she had never seen a woman so calm during transition, as my friend. She just zeroed in her husbands face and remained calm, exceedingly calm. I want to keep His face before me. To remain calm in the midst.
To see only Him.
The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, his eyelids test, the children of men.
†Psalm 11:4
...the upright shall behold his face.
†Psalm 11:7
